YUTAN – Yutan residents will soon be paying more for water and sewer services.

As of Nov. 1, the minimum water rate and the water usage rate will be higher and the city has added a usage rate for the sewer as well.

At its Oct. 20 meeting, the Yutan City Council voted unanimously to increase the water minimum rate from $10 to $12.50.

The usage rate for water was also increased from $1.35 per 1,000 gallons of water to $1.75 per 1,000 gallons used.

According to Yutan City Administrator Gary Duncan, the sewer rate minimum stayed the same at $27, but an extra charge was approved.

The city will now charge $1 per 1,000 gallons of water used over 3,000 gallons.

“In the past for sewer, there was just a minimum charge,” Duncan said.

This is the first increase in water and sewer rates in Yutan since Jan. 1, 2004.

“We needed the additional funds for capital improvements and to cover the increase in operating costs,” Duncan said.
