Dylan Casey (.631, 12 for 19) and Cody Kottich (.588, 10 for 17) had outstanding efforts at the plate going a combined 22 for 36 for the weekend. Casey had six extra-base hits in the tournament, including at least one double in each of the first four games.

UNMC (Bryan) exploded for 20 runs and 22 hits in the opener – a 20-14 win over Hastings.

Trailing 13-7 after five innings, UNMC took the lead with a 10-run sixth. UNMC sent 14 batters to the plate in the frame, putting together eight hits. JD Urban had two hits in the inning to drive in three runs, and Casey drove in a pair of runs with a single. The only extra-base hit in the inning came off the bat of Aaron Beil, who doubled home Urban.

Every UNMC starter had at least one hit, led by Casey’s 5 for 5 effort. Kottich was 4 for 5 with six RBIs, and Joe Gonzalez and Jesse Glasgow had three hits apiece. Urban and Matt Mitera, who homered in the first, each drove in four runs.
